Christmas lights glossary

The terms you'll hear during your design consultation, explained simply.

Roofline
The roofline of a house — the most common place to install Christmas lights, following the contour of eaves and edges.
C9
A classic Christmas bulb size (about 1 inch), used on rooflines for its uniform brightness and traditional look. JVS uses warm-white LED C9 in the Basic Roofline package.
Linear feet
The unit of measurement used to quote installations: the total length of roofline, garden bed, or pathway to be lit, measured in feet.
Permanent lights
A fixed LED lighting system installed in a channel along the roofline, controlled via app and used year-round, not just at Christmas.
LED channel
The profile (usually aluminum or PVC) that houses the LED strip in a permanent lighting system, making it virtually invisible during the day.
App control
A feature of permanent lighting systems that lets you change color, pattern, and schedule from your phone, without physically touching the lights.
Season-end takedown
The service of removing Christmas lights at the end of the season, included in every JVS Christmas Lights package.
Design quote
A free consultation where we measure your property and give you a fixed price before installing any lights.
Commercial grade
A quality level of lighting and wiring suitable for businesses and large properties, more durable than basic consumer-grade lights.
Pathway lighting
Lighting installed along walkways, driveways, or garden paths, quoted per linear foot.
RGB
A color system combining red, green, and blue to produce any programmable color — used in the Custom Premium package and Permanent Lights.
Smart timer
A device that turns lights on and off automatically on a set schedule, available as an add-on with any package.
Tree wrap
The technique of winding lights around a tree's trunk and branches, quoted per tree as an add-on.
HOA
Homeowners Association — in many Houston communities, the body that regulates the type and hours of allowed exterior lighting.
Insured crew
An installation team covered by liability insurance — a key trust standard in the home services niche.
Background check
A screening performed on crew members before they're allowed onto a customer's property — the same standard used by JVS Home Cleaning Services.
Garland
A decorative strand of greenery or lights placed over doors, railings, or windows.
Wreath
A circular ornament, traditionally greenery, hung on the front door — available as a lit add-on.
Early booking
Scheduling your install before mid-November. The earliest calendar slots each season often carry a discount.
Occasion reprogramming
A service available to Permanent Lights customers who want to change the color pattern for Halloween, birthdays, football season, or another special date.
Season maintenance
Inspection and replacement of failed bulbs during the months lights are installed, included in every package.
